Core terms

Peptide
Peptides are made from small strings of amino acids, the parts that form proteins; calling something a peptide does not show that it is safe or legal.
FDA-approved
As of September 2026, FDA approval means the FDA reviewed a specific product for a named use; this is different from a facility being registered with the FDA.
Compounded medicine
As of September 2026, this is a medicine mixed or made to order by a pharmacy or clinician; it is not FDA-approved.
503A pharmacy
As of September 2026, this is a regular pharmacy that makes medicine for one named patient with a prescription.
503B outsourcing facility
As of September 2026, this is a larger facility that makes batches of sterile medicines—medicines made to be free of germs—and follows federal factory-quality rules.
NDC number
A code in a government drug directory; having one does not mean the FDA approved the product.
Telehealth
Care given by video, phone, or an online exchange while the patient and clinician are in different places.
Static questionnaire
A fixed form that cannot ask a follow-up question; the Federation of State Medical Boards, a national group of state boards, says that form alone cannot provide a proper medical review.
Formulary
A health plan’s list of medicines it covers; the plan may still require approval before it pays.
Prior authorization
A step where an insurer must agree to pay before a pharmacy fills the prescription.
Adverse event
Anything unwanted that happens while someone is using a medicine; a report does not prove the medicine caused it.
